Introduction

Since the establishment of the Department of Chemistry in 1962, it has offered programmes in pure Chemistry for the Sciences, Education, Laboratory Technician and Agriculture students.

The challenges and demands of the 21st century have made the study of the classical sciences no longer popular. Interest in them has waned; they have become moribund and no longer inviolable. Moreover the establishment of the School of Biological Sciences has made it necessary for the existing programmes in the remaining departments of the Science Faculty to be reviewed in line with the proposed School of Physical Sciences.
